Chamber supports sale 'for viable future'

26 Nov, 2009 01:00 AM
THE Wauchope Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it will support David and Alison Waite's purchase of Timbertown.

Chamber president, Rob Hamilton, said there would obviously be more issues to go through before the sale was signed off.

"Broadly speaking, keeping Timbertown open is essential to Wauchope, the region and state and nationally," he said.

"The Timbertown name or brand is very strong and the attendance figures are testament to that.

"If the Waites come to Wauchope then the chamber will support them in their endeavours to keep the theme park open."

Mr Hamilton said Timbertown was vitally important to Wauchope in a business and community sense.

"Timbertown attracts 80-odd thousand people each year through the doors ... you don't just dismiss those kinds of numbers easily.

"And under effective private ownership there is potential for substantial increases in these visitation figures.

"The chamber would like to commend David Waite for his ongoing interest in the future of Timbertown as well as offering him ongoing success into the future with the park's operation."

The chamber had been involved in negotiations regarding the expressions of interest process with council regarding the future direction of Timbertown.
