CONSTRUCTION on the Hastings Street IGA is now only a few months off completion.
The storm water works are nearly done in Bransdon Street and the roof and external walls are already finished.
Complete Demolition's contract is to be completed by the middle of June and the store will be able to open its doors roughly 8 weeks after that.
According to site manager Rick Freestone, the rain has had little effect since demolition began on September 24.
"The weather has cost us around 7 working days," Mr Freestone said.
"But things have gone as smoothly as expected, as far as building is concerned."
The new building is going to be approximately 3000square meters and the site includes a car park big enough for 110 cars.
Approximately 20-25 people have been working on the site each day.
Demolition material from the site was all recycled, both locally and by Newcastle companies.
Mr Freestone said the new IGA will look double its size, thanks to its much better layout.
"It's going to be fantastic, state of the art," Mr Freestone said. "It'll be equal to the services you find anywhere else in Australia
