Hustle on the Hastings hits Wauchope

18/09/2008 4:00:00 AM
IT’S time to do the Hustle.

The annual Port Macquarie Escapees Hustle on the Hastings makes its way back to Wauchope this September.

More than 110 motorhomes and caravans are set to make their way to the Wauchope Showground for a week from September 14 to the 21st.

Travellers will make the trek to Wauchope from as far down as Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle as well as north to Grafton and Queensland.

It will be a crowded showground with more than 220 caravan and motorhomes owners travelling around and experiencing the sights and sounds of the Hastings.

There will be numerous tours, concerts, sightseeing, a visit to Cassegrain Winery, river cruises and a Rawdon Island visit.

Ray Chesher from the Port Macquarie Escapees says the excitement is building for this year’s event.

“Everyone is definitely looking forward to it,” he said.

“There is so much on this year and the organisers are putting the final touches on the showground.

"The spots were filled very quickly this year which is fantastic,” he said.

Another positive for organisers is the amount of Escapees returning for the second and third time with more than 40 percent of the of escapees returning this year.

An open day will be held to allow the public to enter the showground and browse the many and varied campervans and motorhomes.

It’s a display that Mr Chesher believes will be of great benefit to everyone.

“I think it will be a great day,’ he said.

“Last year the public wanted to come and check the site out but unfortunately we couldn’t but this year it’s a goer.

“It’s going to be great,” he said.

The open day will be on Saturday the 20th September for people to come along and check out the escapees.

Gates open at 11am with a gold coin entry that will go to Wauchope Lions Club.

There will be loads of entertainment, food and more on the day.
