JUST who are David and Alison Waite?
In the report tabled at last night's council meeting, the Waites were described as 'having a strong interest in and are collectors of, heritage machinery and equipment'.
"The operating model proposed in the submission from the Waites was to continue to operate Timbertown as a heritage theme park," the report says.
"The Waite's have a strong interest in and are collectors of heritage machinery & equipment and have had a long term plan to open a heritage park in Sydney.
"The Waites have also been frequent visitors to Timbertown over the past few years to events like the annual Steam & Oil Festival, so were very familiar with the park and what it offered.
"The Waite's have also showed strong interest in maintaining links with the community groups that are currently located at Timbertown.
"It needs to be clearly stated that any potential sale of Timbertown to David & Alison Waite must be made on a commercial basis, with no encumbrances placed on them by Council.
"This means that if the sale of Timbertown to the Waites does take place, then any decisions regarding the future of the Timbertown commercial tenants and community groups rests solely with the Waites, based on their own commercial judgements.
"However, the Waite's have stated that upon the proposed completion of the sale of Timbertown, they intend to meet with all the relevant community groups and tenants to ascertain their long-term future at Timbertown.
"In the event that a community group is no longer able to remain located at Timbertown, Council shall use its best endeavours to find a suitable location for those community groups."
But the report also says that this is not a guarantee by Council that a satisfactory home will be able to be found or that Council will fund such a move, simply that Council will endeavour to assist community groups when and if required.
The decision on a final settlement date are ongoing, the report says.
