New bullocks join Timbertown team

18 Jun, 2009 09:44 AM
TIMBERTOWN is a buzz as two new bullocks have joined the team.

Acting Timbertown Business Enterprise Manager, Jenny Hamilton said, Spur and Banjo, both two year old Red Devon Cross Beef Shorthorn bullocks have taken their first steps to becoming part of Australia's only seven day a week demonstration bullock team.

"Their training commenced seven months ago by learning the basics such as their names, pushing up in the yoke, turning, walking backwards, stopping and working with a small load behind them are essentials before they work in a team environment," Mrs Hamilton said.

"Spur and Banjo will work beside the likes of Mick and Albert and Dusty and Ranger. With two pairs out of the last three pairs progressing to leaders, there is huge potential for both Spur and Banjo.

"The Timbertown Bullock team would then have the luxury of having three pairs of leaders in the current working team of eight bullocks.

"This ratio is outstanding given that teams only average two to three pairs of leaders in a team as big as twenty," Mrs Hamilton said.

The current Timbertown Bullock team average age is four and three quarters which makes it one of the youngest Timbertown teams on record.

Bullocky Craig Lockwood said: "Over the next couple of years with such a young team it will allow us to perform more technical demonstrations."

The Timbertown Bullock demonstrations are held daily at 11.30am and 2pm.
