Progress Association holds policing forum

01 Feb, 2012 10:59 PM
A FORUM on policing needs in Wauchope will be held at the Wauchope Country Club next Wednesday 8 February commencing at 9.30am, organised by the Wauchope Community Progress Association (WCPA).

President of the Association, George Hegarty, pictured, said the purpose of the meeting was to report on the results of the survey, to listen to residents' ongoing concerns, to hear from member for Oxley Andrew Stoner on the NSW government plans for increased police presence in Wauchope, and to find workable and sustainable solutions to clearly expressed safety concerns in the community.

"These concerns are perceived, in great part, to be attributable to current policing practices," Mr Hegarty said.

"Residents and business owners are becoming increasingly frustrated and angry by what is happening in this town.

"The Forum is not a witch-hunt or a blame game exercise but an opportunity for us all to find workable and sustainable solutions to clearly felt safety concerns."

Representatives of the NSW police will attend the meeting.

Mr Stoner has indicated that he is on a visit to the electorate that day and can attend the meeting for about 45 minutes.

Great idea organising this meeting, what a pity it's scheduled for a time when too many will be unable to attend, but I'm guessing that the timing was necessary because Stoner wasn't willing to ante up and face a truly representative cross-section of the community at an evening meeting. We all know he won't really do anything anyway, I guess this is his way of minimising the fallout from the lack of action he has already previously made. Suck it up Stoner, give us a 24/7/365 police presence that isn't focussed on 'fundraising' by fines and ticket writing.

Stoner was on a vist to the electorate and could only stay 45 minutes? A visit??? He lives just down the road. It's so nice to know just how important you are to the person you voted into office, isn't it.
