THREE students from Wauchope Public School attended the New South Wales Primary Schools Sports Association Athletics Championships on Wednesday October 28.
These children have had very little professional training, if any, so to accomplish getting to State level is something for them to be proud of.
Karl Doherty attempted the 12 - 13 Year old Boys Shot Put. His best throw on the day was a 9.21m. This was a magnificent effort considering he was against boys who have access to training facilities and school support.
Georgia Williams was in the Girls 8 - 10 Year old Girls 200 metres. Unfortunately she had a slow start but she gained a lot of ground to be the 37th fastest runner in this event in the State. Well done Georgia on a fantastic effort and to achieve this without any professional training makes it even more monumental.
Haley Corbet was in the Girls 12 Year old 100 metres. She had a good start to achieve her personal best time of 14.49, making her the 33rd fastest runner in this event in the State. She was against girls who have been running in these events for all their primary school lives and again have had training of some kind for them to achieve the speeds they do.
The whole day of events ran very smoothly and the weather was in everyone's favour. On Thursday October 29 most of the finals from the previous day were held as well as the team relay events.
All participants appeared to have enjoyed their experiences, but to even get to that level is something the kids will remember their whole lives. Well Done.
Well done: Karl Doherty, Georgia Williams and Haley Corbet competed in the NSW PSSA Athletics Championships late last month.
