MANY hours’ of planning will come to fruition this weekend when the Wauchope Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club celebrates its 50th year of operation.
A group of club members, led by life member and life governor, Chalkie Bob Smith, have co-ordinated a weekend of events including a cocktail party, official dinner and open clubhouse and recovery breakfast on Sunday.
The club has attempted to contact as many former members as possible but the logistics of this have been prohibitive.
Along with Chalkie Bob, the committee also includes secretary Jan Clingeleffer, Jill Woodlands and Denise Buckley.
The committee said ‘this significant milestone’ would be a major event for the club.
This committee said the weekend will kick off with an event at the clubhouse on Friday (tomorrow).
The program includes:
Friday 6pm – 50th anniversary booklet and DVD launch at the clubhouse. This will feature a handing over of the booklet from oldest members, Chalkie Bob Smith and George Fowler to the club’s younger patrolling members and nippers.
The booklet will then be officially launched in the clubhouse.
7pm – Cocktail party in the clubhouse.
Saturday 6.30pm for 7pm - Anniversary Dinner at Wauchope RSL includes guest speakers.
Sunday from 8am – Recovery breakfast at the clubhouse. This will include the first day of competition for nippers.
