A POLISHED innings from young Beechwood batsman Ryan Ackerman and seven wickets from Matt Bird helped steer the Beechwood Warriors third grade side to victory on Saturday.
On Tuffins Lane Oval the Beechwood side got away to a quick start against the Macquarie Hotel bowlers with Ackerman scoring his first century after hitting 91 not-out the week before.
Ackerman hit his way around the park eventually compiling 121 not-out and was well supported by Ostler (34) and Hendricks (26).
After 40 overs the Beechwood side were 4/243 and confident of toppling the Macquarie outfit.
Ackerman was thrilled to bag his first century.
"Everyone wants to hit a ton," he said.
"I came close last week so it definitely made it that much sweeter. I was just happy to get some time in at the crease."
The star with the ball for Beechwood was Matt Bird who claimed seven Port scalps for just 37 in a dominant bowling display.
The Macquarie Hotel outfit were outgunned from the beginning eventually being bowled out for 80 runs.
The Beechwood Colts took on the Wauchope RSL Club A side in the other third grade match played at Fairmont Gardens on Saturday.
The Wauchope RSL Club side won the toss and elected to bat eventually compiling 8/146 off 37 overs.
The wickets were shared throughout the Beechwood bowlers with S Dobbyns returning the best figures of 2/8 while J Murphy earned his 2/14 figures.
With Beechwood chasing 147 for the win it was always going to be a tight match and M Ennor (82) got the Colts off to a solid start but struggled to find support which proved costly as the Beechwood outfit lost by one run eventually bowled out for 145 after 33.3 overs.
THE Beechwood Buffalos fourth grade side made light work of the Port Panthers Pirates Black despite only having nine players at Tuffins Lane on Saturday.
