Network Video Wauchope is trying to change the conversation, by showing how much ordinary Australians care about each other.
And for a problem that touches so many people in Australia, it's one that seems to be swept under the carpet; but make no mistake, this issue is real and it's impacting more lives than you might expect.
That's why Network Video Wauchope is proud to present the sixth annual Cans4Films Festival, an in-store initiative that's designed to provide tangible help in delivering hunger relief across the nation.
Helping is simple - all through July you can do your bit to end hunger by simply donating a can of food at the local Network Video store and, in doing so, you will receive a free weekly rental; donate two cans and receive three free weekly rentals.
You get a great night's entertainment, and you ensure that someone's not going hungry.
If you don't have any spare cans, you can still contribute by offering a gold coin donation in-store, which will then be used to purchase more cans of food to feed those who need it the most.
And it's a solution that works - since its inception, Network Video through Cans4Films has raised more than 310,000 cans of food nationally, that have been delivered to local food shelters and charities. That equates to more than 150 tonnes of food.
As Cans4Films proves, making a difference doesn't have to be expensive - for less than a cup of coffee, you can provide a meal to an Australian who would otherwise miss out.
"All of us at Network Wauchope are proud to be part of the Cans4Films Festival in 2013," said Sherral and Pop Carney from the store.
"It's such a great cause, and we're so happy to be providing practical solutions to such a big problem in today's society."
Focusing on supporting their surrounding local communities, each Network Video store works with a local charity to ensure the food gets directly to those who need it the most.
This year in Wauchope the food will be going to the Neighbourhood Centre, which will then distribute it to needy families and individuals in the local area.
Every year, two million Aussies rely on food relief at some point - alarmingly, children make up half that figure.
