Blake Ferguson's conversion to Islam will keep him off the Breezers but on Wednesday night he may be feeling punch drunk after his boxing debut.

With every Canberra Raiders supporter in his corner, Luke Turner won a unanimous points decision in their four-round bout at Allphones Arena.

The three judges scored the bout 37-39, bringing a huge roar, perhaps one that carried from the nation's capital.

The Goulburn excavator had only taken up boxing two months ago but came into the bout the more experienced pugilist, having already had an amateur bout at his local Worker's Club. It proved decisive.

In what may be a nod towards his league intentions, Ferguson waltzed into the ring in blue and white trunks. Turner, himself a footballer for the Bulldogs, the Goulburn Workers variety, copped the Origin star's best blows in the opening round. Ferguson clearly couldn't wait for the second, throwing a flurry of punches after the bell. It seems everything he does is controversial.

The second round was Turner's, there was little in the third and in the fourth it was all the $4 outsider.

Ferguson, however, was keen for another crack.

"It was an awesome experience, I really enjoyed it," he said. "I want to get back in the ring."

While there are understandably still concerns about Ferguson's mental state, NRL suitors needn't concern themselves with physical scarring after his first boxing bout. He copped a series of overhand rights but the main bruising would have been to his ego.

There were rumours that Ferguson would be a late withdrawal but, with Solomon Haumono and Tony Mundine in his corner, he made the appointment.

Ferguson remains in league limbo, with several clubs interested in his services but no guarantee that the NRL will register him.

He might be related to Anthony Mundine and call on him as trainer but appears not to have the same pedigree after an uninspiring boxing debut.
