The carnival attracted surfboat crews and their supporters from as far north as Brunswick Heads and as far south as Pacific Palms. The carnival was a big success for the host club with lots of preparations prior to the event.
We would just to say thankyou to all our club members and supporters who showed up on Saturday to watch some awesome surfboat rowing at Bonny Hills! We had an army of helpers to assist with the running of the carnival and early feedback indicates that the carnival was a great success. The North Coast Surfboat Series officials have commented that this is annually the best run carnival and that this year the club has once again done a tremendous job!
Our junior crews (under 19 years men's and under 23 years women's) were the standout performers for the weekend with success in their divisions. The under 19years mens crew, "the Chubby Chasers" contested their junior division and also won the reserve grade division.
Well done to Sam Monaghan, Aaron Grose, Nathan Ross and Harry Cain, swept by Steve Monaghan who rowed in a total of 12 races on Saturday! Our junior womens crew, "the Wiggles", raced in the open womens division and came second after winning 2 races and two second places. Well done to Sammi Dimond, Bella Millar, Rachael Kee, Kyannah Goggin and Hannah Munroe also swept by Steve Monaghan!
Our two open mens crews, the "Telletubbies" and the "Rejects", and our over 40 years masters womens crew, the "Girlfreds", raced well with mixed results on Saturday in the testy conditions.
The combined Wauchope-Bonny Hills crews' performance left the club in a well-deserved top-five position in the pointscore.
The surfboat crews' next competition outing will be at Crescent Head on Saturday, February 1.
Thanks again to all our boaties and supporters, see you on the beach!
