Kendall and Dragons battle 12-all draw

KENDALL and Long Flat battled a gallant 12-all draw but it was the appearance of Paul 'The Chief' Harragon and current Newcastle Knights players Kurt Gidley and Ryan Stig, that helped boost the crowd at the Kendall Showground.-

The trio were part of the Kendall Family Fun Day which will take some beating by any other club.-

The match was played in beautiful sunshine despite the ground still being very wet, muddy and slippery - but it made for exciting football.-

Dragons second rower Bob Hayward opened the scoring with a try after just 10 minutes and with centre James Mumford on target for a 6-0 lead.

However, Chris Hanlon managed to level the scores when he touched down for Kendall on 25 minutes with Kane Pearce landing the conversion.-

One minute from half time, the Dragons took the lead when five eighth Corey Millgate got over the tryline and with Mumford again on target, Long Flat led 12-6 at the break.-

The second half saw both sides have excellent chances to score points, but neither side could take advantage.-

It was not until the 54th minute that Kendall Blues centre David O'Hara posted his side's second try of the match that the home side got back into the contest. Daniel Minns took over the kicking duties and landed the conversion for a 12-all scoreline.-

Bob Hayward led the hit ups with 18, with Scott Walmsley 17 and Shaun Bannerman 14 while Walmsley led the tackle count with 27 and Trent Dixon and Bannerman 26.-

Bannerman picked up three points in the club's best and fairest with Corey Millgate 2 points and Walmsley 1 point. Millgate was named the players player award winner for the Dragons.-
