IT took Comboyne almost 60 minutes to crack a determined Lake Cathie defensive line in their Hastings League clash on the plateau on Saturday.
In a match that could have gone either way, it was the Raiders who looked the goods in the contest running away with the contest 54-12.
Lake Cathie led 24-0 at the break thanks to tries to Paul Matheson, a double to Jared Bruen-Ansell and Matt Irby while Zac Bruen-Ansell booted all four conversion attempts.
The Raiders maintained the rage in the second half with Drew Smith crossing after just four minutes while Zac Bruen-Ansell posted his first try of the contest just on seven minutes.
The try procession continued with Gavin Burnham crossing in the 11th minute followed by Matt Irby - for his double - on 18 minutes. Matt Johl completed the try scoring for the Raiders when he crossed in the 21st minute.
Zac Bruen-Ansell landed all five conversions - making in nine from nine for the match - to bring up the Raiders' 54 points for the contest. And there was still 20 minutes to play in the game.
But then the Tigers set about clawing its way back into the contest.
Corey Paio posted his team's first points of the contest in the 24th minute and Nathan Bender converted before Dennis Jones got over the tryline eight minutes from full time.
Bender was again on target to complete the Tigers' scoring for the contest.
Shaun Madeley was sent to the sin bin in the 38th minute.
