Train derails at Wauchope station

THE recovery of a Pacific National locomotive that derailed on the siding at Wauchope Railway Station has been completed.

The loco was one of three undertaking shunting services into Boral's Wallace Street site when the third loco derailed on Saturday morning.

A Pacific National spokesperson said an independent investigation was now underway.

"That independent investigation will be used to understand the cause of this incident and, obviously, those details are still ongoing," the spokesperson said.

"This was a minor incident and we do not provide any details on the exact cost (of the recovery exercise or any damage).

"We continued to work in conjunction with ARTC to get the process back up and running."

A crew from Wheeler Cranes arrived in Wauchope earlier in the week and undertook some minor earthworks to ensure their 200 tonne crane was stable. That work was carried out on the western side of the tracks next to Muddles Farm Centre.

Once the crane was in place, the crew set about re-positioning the train on the tracks.
