Little Athletics in for busy season

WITH registrations dates for Little Athletics fast approaching, the Wauchope Little A's have been busy preparing for the new season.

This week saw Darren Wensor from LANSW do a fun and interactive presentation at several local schools including Wauchope, Beechwood and Huntingdon.

The presentation is aimed at showing children how fun athletics can be and how the whole family can be involved.

Darren also stayed on in the area to teach an introduction to coaching with a number of parents and senior members of the Wauchope club attending and gaining certification as level 1 coaches.

This is great news for the club as in past years they have struggled to find qualified coaches to teach techniques on club nights and help our athletes prepare for Regional and State competitions.

With a record 5 Wauchope athletes qualifying at a State level last year it has become apparent that Wauchope has a number of up and coming athletic talents.

It was an eye opening experience for these young athletes to attend competitions at Olympic grade stadiums where athletes from the large city clubs all have personal coaches. It is a credit to these young athletes that they make it to this level on pure determination and ability.

This year the Wauchope club is committed to improving its coaching base and continuing to provide opportunities for our up and coming athletes as well as providing a fun and informative environment for athletes of all levels and abilities. It is outstanding that a number of senior club members who are still Little Athletes themselves have offered to attend the coaching course and can now use their knowledge and experience to encourage and mentor the younger athletes.

The club will hold a registration night at Blackbutt Park at 5.30pm on Friday August 31, registration is also available online at littleatheltics.com.au.

The 2012/2013 season will begin on Friday September 7.
