Dennis Jones scores seven tries in Tigers' romp

Comboyne 84 defeated Kendall 0

DENNIS Jones scored seven tries in the Comboyne Tigers’ 84-0 shut-out of the Kendall Blues in their Hastings League clash on the weekend.

The Tigers were just too powerful for the young Blues side and Jones epitomised Comboyne’s afternoon.

He scored four tries in the first half with tries in the 3rd, 12th, 17th and 35 minutes and added three more tries in the second half in the 3rd, 27th, and 39th minutes.

Other Tigers try scorers in the first half were Joseph Paio, Nathan Bender and Sam Hensley while Bender booted five conversions for a 38-0 lead at the break.

The Tigers continued to press ahead in a clinical display of football in the second half with tries to Dennis Jones (2), Ben Alaban, Luke Reis, Lee O’Brien, and Beau Dorrington while Nathan Bender booted three conversions and Lee O’Brien and George Jones landed one conversion each.

Beechwood 34 defeated Boardies 32

THE Beechwood Shamrocks had to wait for the final game of the 2012 Hastings League season to record its first win of the season ... but it was worth the wait.

The Shamrocks defeated the Boardriders 34.32 in a gripping contest.

Among the best for the Port-based side was Kliff Foggon who crossed for three tries. Despite that heroics, it was the Shamrocks' day.

Beechwood jumped out to a 12-0 lead after just 15 minutes through tries to Andrew Copelin and Mitch Waind while Amos Donovan booted the conversions.

But the Boardies struck back through tries to Chris Henshaw, Andrew Glover while Foggin crashed over the two of his three tries. Chris Dunn landed two conversions to give the Boardies a 20-12 half time lead.

Looking down the barrel of a win less season, Beechwood grabbed the lead through tries Waind and Danny Hobson - Donovan landed one conversion inside the first 15 minutes of the resumption of play to take the lead 22-20.

Shannon Brazier restored the Boardies' lead on 58 minutes with a crucial try and when Dunn booted the extras the score was 26-22.

Foggin crossed for his third try of the day on 62 minutes and with Dunn again on target the Boardies looked home and hosed at 32-22.

But a tough as teak final 11 minutes saw the Shamrocks scored two converted tries - to Donovan and the hard-work backrower Mark Andrighetto - with Donovan booting the two conversion to give the Beechwood club its first win of the season 34-32.

The Beechwood Club and supporters would like to thank the players as it has been a tough season, and it showed the club spirit is still alive by the number of players that turned up at training, nearly a full squad every night.

We are also very pleased to see them finish up with a win.

Beechwood RLFC Inc. aims to get an early start to the 2013 season by appointing their Player/Coach and new committee at the AGM on Sunday August 26.

Lake Cathie 94 defeated Hy-Tech Sharks 4

THE Lake Cathie Raiders trounced fellow semi finalists Hy-Tech Sharks 94-4 in a lopsided final hit out of the Hastings League on Saturday.

Both sides have reached the semi final stage, but, on this performance, the Sharks will have to improve greatly to have any hope of continuing in the competition.

The Raiders, meanwhile, have been in tremendous form at the back end of the season.
