With the start of the Wauchope Show coinciding with Anzac Day, Greg and members of the Wauchope RSL Sub-Branch have been busy creating a display in the showground's main hall to celebrate the hundred year anniversary of the start of World War 1 in 1914.
The display will include mannequins dressed in period costume including correct military uniforms and are being supplied by Ian Sparke's movie company Sparkefilms out of Brisbane.
When the Gazette spoke with Ian in Brisbane on Tuesday he had just finished packing the last of the boxes of items to be couriered to Wauchope.
"We are sending down the best gear we have from Brisbane to create the authentic displays from 1914," said Mr Sparke.
"We have ladies outfits, officers, nurses as well as the mannequins - all in all it ended up being about 10 boxes worth.
"We have also included a couple of authentic costumes for someone to wear during the Anzac Day parade."
Australia was at war in late 1914 but was not involved in the major conflicts, but was training for war and sending men overseas.
The display follows the theme of people saying goodbye to troops, actual travel overseas and men in training in Egypt.
Community members have supplied printed material, photos and historical articles to add colour to the display.
Men who enlisted from the Hastings are depicted in the display. A list of all those Hastings men who were killed will be displayed and visitors may find their relatives on the list.
The display does not cover all aspects of war but acts as a token of remembrance to those who died or suffered for their country.
President of the Sub-Branch, Des Hancock, is appealing to the public for help in putting the final touches to this unique display.
"This has been Greg's baby and he has put so much work into it," said Des.
"It's great to have Ian Sparke on board to create this," said Des.
"If it all goes well it would be great to have this next year so of course we want to see it up and running".
"We still need help from volunteers in setting it all up so if anyone can help please contact the sub-branch office through the RSL".
Greg Cavanagh is urging the public to visit the display.
"It's a great chance to reflect on the service given to our country by the many thousands of young men and women over many years," said Mr Cavanagh.
