The Port Macquarie Futsal team, the EastCoast Eagles, competed in round 1 of the Australian National Futsal League in Sydney.
Both the men's and women's teams achieved excellent results.
Competition began on Saturday with both our men's and women's teams playing two games each and continuing on Sunday with a further two games.
The women's squad's performance was fantastic. Their first game against the Sydney Storm saw the local side 2-2 for most of the game until the last minutes when Sydney were able to finish 4-2.
Their second game was almost the local derby, playing the Newcastle Titans. EastCoast dominated from the start and won the match 9-1.
Third game was a tough game against Parramatta Blues, a very good team with longstanding players and coach. The result was a loss 12-2 but we learnt a lot from this match and look forward to our next meeting.
Fourth match was a battle of the states, Atletico Brisbane. The match was close but EastCoast came out the winners 6-3.
Our men's squad was awesome and although not coming home with a win, they still achieved our best results ever. Every match we were the first to score and we rattled teams that have played together for many years, with most teams packed full of State and Australian representatives.
We are slowly getting closer to stealing some wins.
Our second day was our strongest. Although playing together for the first time our boys really gelled on day two, going down to Parramatta Blues 5-2.
Game 4 and we were up 3-2 with great attack, forcing Qld Atletico Brisbane to pull their keeper off and run a 5th player. Atletico eventually came out with the win 6-3.
We look forward to Round 2 which will be held at Wauchope Indoor Sports Stadium this weekend.
