Port Macquarie residents will have to wait until next month to take delivery of their red bins ahead of the new fortnightly red bin collection service on September 1.
Almost 7500 red bins, for the minimiser or standard service, will be delivered from Monday to residents in some of the region’s smaller towns and villages who have chosen the fortnightly red bin service.
Next week’s roll out will include Comboyne, Byabarra, Long Flat, Cooperabung, Telegraph Point, Lorne, Kendall, Kew, Laurieton, West Haven, Dunbogan, Camden Head, Lakewood, Mortons Creek, Beechwood, Rosewood, Crosslands, Wauchope and Redbank.
Residents are asked not to use their new red bins until September 1 as that is when the new garbage trucks with the capacity to lift the new bins come into service.
Households which have elected to receive a weekly “excess” service or the free recycling upgrade won’t receive their new red or 360 litre yellow bins until mid-August.
Thousands more red bins will be delivered from July 28 to areas such as Bonny Hills, Lake Cathie, Lake Innes, King Creek,
Sancrox, Thrumster, Riverside and the North Shore.
Port Macquarie is next in line, with more than 15,000 red bins delivered here in the week starting August 4.
Council’s director of development and environment Matt Rogers said the roll-out was a mammoth logistical task with almost 40,000 new red and yellow bins to be delivered between now and the start of the new service on September 1.
More than half of the bins will be new red bins while another 10,000 will be new 360 litre yellow bins for people who elected the free recycling upgrade.
Households will receive new seven litre kitchen bins at the same time in an effort to reduce the amount of food waste headed to landfill.
Cr Rob Turner said he was confident the swapping of the new bins for the old would be managed without any hiccups.
Residents should continue using their old bins until the new service starts, after which they can keep their old bins for storage or place them out for collection and recycling.
Bins should be placed upside down on the kerb ready for collection on September 8.
The collection of old bins is expected to take another three weeks. Anyone who believes they have received the wrong bin or if their property has been missed in the bin roll-out should contact JR Richards on 1300 787 223 after double checking the full bin delivery schedule at www.pmhc.nsw.gov.au/bins
