Council adopted the 2014/15 Footpath/Cycleway Program at its meeting last week, highlighting the importance being placed on infrastructure assets across the local government area in the Council's Operational Plan.
The need to provide additional funding for footpaths and cycleways was identified by councillors as a priority, resulting in $500,000 being allocated to the program in the 2014-2015 Operational Plan.
Council's Director Infrastructure and Asset Management Jeffery Sharp said in allocating this funding the council will undertake works across the local government area with the aim of achieving as much as possible with the funds available.
"In addition to having a rolling prioritised list, the program is flexible enough to respond to external funding opportunities such as grants," Mr Sharp said.
"The rolling program also allows for identification of works that may require significant preconstruction activities that can be budgeted for - with completed designs - and ready to go once funding becomes available."
Local footpath projects included in 2014/15 Footpath/Cycleway Program are:
n Bain Street footpath southside (Hastings to Cameron Streets), which is expected to commence around the end of August (weather permitting) and take around three weeks to be constructed.
n Cameron Street footpath westside (Wauchope swimming pool to River Street), which requires some minor design works and will be scheduled for construction to follow the Bain Street works (weather permitting).
n Hastings Street, Bain Street to River Street (east side).
n Bain Street, Hastings Street to Cameron Street (north side).
