The game was quite physical for the first 15 minutes and the action went from try line to try line until the Blues' Ben Johnson scored in the corner off a slick backline movement. The conversion was missed due to strong wind, giving the Blues a 4-0 lead.
For the next 15 minutes the same applied, with some very strong defence and, with seconds to half-time, the Blues centre Ben Johnson dived on a loose ball to score his second try of the game. Mark Bell converted, giving the Blues a 10-0 lead at the break.
The second half started well, with the Blues' second rower Shaun Hinton breaking the line and sprinting 40 metres to score next to the post and the ever reliable Mark Bell converting, giving the Blues a well deserved 16-0 lead, the club says.
Ten minutes later Shaun Hinton scored a try after a bustling run from 15 metres out, bringing the score to 22-0.
Minutes later Mark Bell scooted from dummy half with some great footwork and scored under the post.
Mark converted his own try, giving the Blues a 28-0 lead.
The Blues relaxed in the last 15 minutes, allowing three soft tries in, making the final score 28-12 in favour of the Blues Young Guns.
It was a great effort from the under-strength Blues and a great effort from under 16s Mark Bell and Jacob McGrath, who played the entire game.
Players' player voted by fellow team mates went to Mark Bell, three match points went to Shaun Hinton, two points to Mark Bell and one point to Jacob McGrath.
This win places the Blues Young Guns in second position on the table with two matches to play.
We have this Saturday off and play the Mustangs on August 9 at home.
