Forest Corporation's Senior Manager Forest Stewardship, Kathy Jones, said showcasing the old tree is 'a great example of how we manage and protect significant environmental features in working forests'.
She is now called the Forest Stewardship Manager.
As a local I am wondering what this actually means? Why is it about looking after the environmental features?
Shouldn't it be about looking after the actual forests?
Why does forestry now go in now every five years and clear felling instead of selectively logging as the local timber fellers did for years a few decades ago?
Where's the stewardship? What's happening to the forest now doesn't look like stewardship we once knew.
I've heard that even more safeguards about how logging takes place are being removed and that Kathy Jones agrees with logging even the steeper catchments because they have taken all the wood on the coast.
