One Sunday last month, Manfred was driving past the Bonnyview Store and noticed a group of people gathered around a gentleman who was lying on the footpath. He stopped and went to assess the situation.
At the same time, a member of the public had gone to the surf club to see if anyone was available to help. Steve and Paul were in the Training Room and Elaine was restocking the first aid room.
Manfred had commenced CPR when the others arrived and Steve, Elaine and Paul all assisted, briefing paramedics when they arrived. Our members worked in conjunction with paramdeics continuing with compressions and also attending to the 000 caller, who appeared to be in shock.
It was later established that the elderly male had no shockable heart rhythm, however our members are to be thanked and congratulated for the quality of their care. I'm sure the man's family would be very grateful knowing that every effort was made to save his life and that four of our trained members were in the vicinity and able to assist. He was, most certainly, in the best of care.
Thanks Manfred, Steve, Elaine and Paul - you stayed calm, used your training and I am immensely proud of your efforts. Thanks also to Manfred for his follow up on Monday and to everyone for attending the debrief session, which is an important part after an incident.
