The team welcomed newcomers Ben McMillan, Ryan Beaumont and twins Bayd and Tallis Latham who strengthened the squad. There was the addition of Mark Bell and Jacob McGrath from under 16's who trained hoping to get a game from time to time.
The squad trained hard from the outset; the league tag, reserves and first grade trained all year as one unit.
The young guns' dedication on the training field transferred to the playing field keeping them in second place right up to the last game of the normal season. There were a lot of season ending injuries to key members of the team giving the talented duo Mark Bell and Jacob McGrath a starting position in the squad.
The first semi-final was played against Wingham who gave the young Blues a footy lesson winning convincingly and making the following week's game sudden death against the inform Forster Tuncurry side. The Blues side found form with a great hard fought win. There were a few positional changes that proved to be a great call from coach Peter Ninness. The same team took the field last week at Macleay Valleys home field against the bigger Wingham side for the opportunity to play for a berth in the final. The young guns started as underdogs after being beaten two weeks earlier by the Wingham team.
The Blues started slow making far too many mistakes giving the Wingham side a converted try to lead 6-0 after 5 minutes. Due to some very strong defence, the Blues ended the game with a gutsy 16-6 win giving them the chance to play against the undefeated Port Sharks side at home in the grand final this Sunday.
"The Blues are a very talented side and can score points from anywhere on the field," said coach Peter Ninness.
"Having the same starting side three weeks running will improve their chance of success this Sunday."
As well as a great playing roster the team is supported by Coach Peter Ninness, Manager Troy McKinnon, assistant coach Brad Hinton, head trainers Maree Hirst , Richard Bloomfield, assistant trainers Austin Bell and Mat Guthrie and also supported greatly by President Steve Bailey and Kelly McHugh.
