THE bowlers of Wauchope Men's Bowling Club usually have their eyes firmly fixed on the Jack, but this week their bias was all about Wauchope District Memorial Hospital.

Club President Lester Thurgate and Treasurer Brian Thomas delivered a $500 donation to the hospital, after 'fining' members for the past year who bowled the wrong way, or played the wrong bias.
"It's a pretty easy mistake to make," Mr Thurgate said.
"The bias is on the inside of the bowl. Put the bowl down the wrong way and it curves away from the Jack.
"Because it's a common mistake for players to make, we thought it would be a great way to raise funds for a worthwhile cause.
"Every wrong bias delivered a gold-coin donation to the kitty.
"Of course, some players, like Dennis Simpson, made a bigger contribution to the donation than others, but it was all a bit of fun for a good cause," Mr Thurgate said.
The Wauchope Men's Bowling Club donation will help deliver a bright new look to the former palliative care rooms in the main hospital building.
The hospital's Acting Executive Officer/Director of Nursing Sharon Gouck welcomed the donation on behalf of staff and patients.
"It is wonderful that local sporting and community groups, such as the Wauchope Men's Bowling Club, go out of their way to support their local hospital," Mrsw Gouck said.
"The community has helped us achieve a wonderful new Palliative Care Unit for Wauchope and we now have the opportunity to enhance patient amenity in other parts of the hospital and the hospital grounds.
"Our bowlers have shown today that when it comes to their hospital, they're happy to show a bit of bias, and for that we are very thankful."
