His team played a good game overall, coach Aaron Ison said of his side's 16-4 defeat of the Forster-Tuncurry Hawks, reversing the 2013 grand final result.

The Wauchope women's side stuck to their game plan and followed their set plays better than the other team, Ison said, drawing some consolation from the women's grand final win - the only result that went Wauchope's way in the three Group 3 grand finals on Sunday.

The girls all worked hard during the whole game, spurred on by their hunger for a win, he said.

"It was a good team effort," the coach said.

"They scored some good tries and worked hard for each other and for the team."

Among the great overall team performance Ison said exceptional efforts included those of winger Larissa Ward, a 14-year-old player competing in her first grand final, and "as usual" Anna Lewis, who stood out on the field and whose "inspiring game" earned her the player of the match award.

The 16-4 victory over the side who defeated them by the same margin in the previous year's grand final was very satisfying for the team and for the club, Ison said.

At least the Blues scored one out of three, he said.
