THE third round of the Wauchope Men's Golf Club Championships, proudly sponsored by NorthCorp Accounting, was run on Saturday, September 13.

There were no excuses available for the 190 starters, with the course in great condition, with the greens running true. We had visitors from South West Rocks, Maitland, Kew, Woolgoolga, NGAF, Cabramatta and Beaudesert.
The A grade went, for the second week in a row, to Nathan Trotter Allen with a nett 68. Second was David Cairns a shot further back on nett 69. Third was Shane Madden on nett 70 and fourth Mark Harvey on nett 71 on countback. The gross was won by Stefan Walker with a 72 off the stick.
We had a long drive for each grade, with the A grade winner Ben Alliston. The nearest the pins went to Stefan Walker (1st) who hit it to a tap-in of 12cm, Shane Olsson (4th), Peter Connor (7th) and Lee Gietzelt (18th).
The B grade went to Adam Roelands with a nett 67. Second went to David Pettitt, like the A grade, a shot back on nett 68. Third was Andrew Graham on nett 69 on a countback from Paul Terp also on nett 69. Andrew Graham also won the gross with 85 off the stick. Sam McCudden won the long drive of the B grade. The nearest the pins went to Michael Dietrich (4th), David Giddens (7th) and Bob Potts (18th). The nearest the pin on the 1st was not won.
The C grade like last week was the closest grade, with the top three players on nett 69. The winner, continuing his good progress, was Thomas Hoy. Second went to Ian Hackney, who also won the gross and third Garry McDonald. Fourth went to Max Cameron on nett 71. The long drive went to Jock Garvin. The nearest the pins went to Terry Seach (1st), Merv Booth (4th), Brett Cant (7th) and Les Cook (18th).
The CCR was 71 and the ball run went to 74 on a countback (47 successful). The members' draw was won by Tony O'Dwyer, with the beer draw going to Al Ninness and Andrew Cross.
The recorders for the day were Alan Hoy and Brett Hopkinson.
Next Saturday, September 20, sees a fourth and final round of the Club Championships, proudly sponsored by NorthCorp Accountants.
Thursday, September 11, saw a Single Stableford event contested across three grades. We had a field of 140 starters, with visitors from Woodburn, Evans Head, Kurri, Kew and Fox Hills.
The A grade went to Alan Flaherty on 39 points. Second was Roy Stokes on 37 points, with Simon Carpenter a shot further back on 36 points on countback. The nearest the pins went to Ian Bain (4th), John Court (7th) and Paul Stewart (18th).
The B grade winner was Bruce Amey (the club's handicapper) on 38 points. Second was Dave Middlebrook on 37 points, with Graham Cumming on 36 points on a countback. The nearest the pins went to Rex Nairn (4th) who struck it to an impressive 40cm, David Mills (7th) and Graham Hoy (18th).
The C grade was a tight tussle for the number one position. The eventual winner was Terry Morrison on a countback from Col Hassel - both scored 36 points. Third was Jim Stewart on 35 points on a countback. The nearest the pins went to Ken Griffin (4th), Roy Lowe (7th) and Ken Griffin (18th).
The CCR was 70 with the ball run going down to 33 points on a countback (35 players successful).

Sunday, September 14, saw the running of the Wauchope Golf Club's Holden Scramble - a four man Ambrose. The event was proudly sponsored by Port Macquarie Holden. The event saw a full field, with prizes going to the top 10 teams.
The men's nearest the pin went to Gregg Price who hit his shot to 2.24m. The ladies' nearest the pin went to Narelle Quinn who hit her shot to a close 73cm. They both received four super soft balls for their effort.
I will now go through the top 10 teams, going from 10 to 1. Teams 5 to 10 each member received a golf ball for their effort.
10th place on nett 59 was Peter Connor, Bill Studeman, John Schaefer and Darren McCudden.
9th place on nett 59 3/8 was Simon Fitzgerald, Geoff Flemming, Julius Dellicastelli and Mick Cannon.
8th place on nett 59 was Scott Slade, Alan Holt, Adam Roberts and Nathan Monaghan.
7th place on nett 58 was Charlie Farley, John Purnell, Darren Eather and Matt Crow.
6th place on nett 58 was Paul Ireland, Shane Ireland, Alan Miller and Margie Pritchard.
5th place on nett 57 7/8 was Michael Robert, Rob Holster, Zac Krause and Carolyn Gamble.
And now it comes down to the business end of the day:
4th place on nett 57 1/8 was Scott Wholohan, Nigel Sweetnam, Luke Schubert and John Leicht. They each received a shoe bag.
3rd place on nett 56 5/8 was Josh Peir, Jonathon Toombs, Tax McKeough and Trent McKeough. They each received golf towels.
2nd place on nett 56 was Bruce Amey, Reg Potter, Sam McCudden and Iris McCudden. They each received an umbrella.
1st and winner of the day on nett 55 went to Tony Collins, Stefan Hamilton, Glenn Knuckey and Ray Ylias. They each received a golf bag.
The top two teams also qualified for the regional event, which is to be played at Bonville Golf Resort on Monday, October 27. Each team will have a professional golfer to play along with them.
These types of days don't just happen. A big thanks again to the team at Port Macquarie Holden, the course staff for a beautiful course, Clarke, Neil and Beryl in the pro shop, the golf committee and the catering and bar staff at the club - enjoyed the nibblies at the end of the round.
