Accompanied by the NRMA's regional business manager Heidi Novosell, Ms Machin is visiting North Coast offices to touch base "and rehearse for the 100th anniversary" of the often invaluable roadside breakdown service.
During the visit Ms Machin chatted with Beechwood resident Fiona Turner, who had called in to organise a green slip for a vehicle.
Having always lived in the "the bush", Fiona has needed to call on the NRMA for roadside help a number of times, she said, with her "scariest experience" being when her 18-month-old son became locked in her car. He was retrieved safe and well thanks to the NRMA road patrolman.
And working in child care, Fiona said she has seen lots of other cases of the NRMA coming to the rescue when kids have managed to activate the remote locking in their parents' cars.
In fact NRMA crews rescue four or five children from cars in NSW every day, Ms Machin said.
