THE future of the Wauchope District Rugby League Football Club is in serious doubt.
Unless the club can appoint at president at next Wednesday's (second attempt at an) AGM, one of Australia's oldest sporting clubs will fold.
At the first AGM held on October 1, the club failed to form a committee with positions of club president, vice president, secretary and treasurer remaining open and coaching positions for the club's four teams unconfirmed.
It's not a situation 21-year-old club stalwart, Ged Roods is comfortable with and it comes at a time of enormous change for the Blues.
"I am a bit desperate in a sense and I think a lot of people are," said Ged.
"It's a time of change for the club with Robbie (Trembath) moving on and a few of our senior players leaving.
"Maybe people feel like it isn't the same club.
"But unless we get a committee formed, we will fold," he said.
It clearly takes a lot to rattle this soft spoken and level headed young man but the passion he has for the Blues is evident and he is determined to rally the community into action.
He is quick to acknowledge the incredible efforts of the outgoing president Steve Bailey and secretary Kelly McHugh.
"Steve has been right behind the club and has a real love for the Wauchope Blues.
"Together with his wife Vanessa, who has run the canteen, they have really contributed to our success but it is time for someone else to step up now.
"We need a good secretary, this is the heart of the club, and we get lots of correspondence; Kelly as done a fantastic job with this.
"Once again we need to give those people a chance to move on and inject new blood into the club".
The Wauchope Football Club had its foundation with a picnic match at "Goal Hill" in Port Macquarie on May 24, 1891.
Records show that on May 22 1920, Wauchope's first competition Rugby League game was held at Bain Park, Wauchope, against long-time foes from Beechwood.
In 1950, 30 years after the league began, the code was firmly entrenched as Wauchope's major sporting activity.
"It's such a great club," said Ged.
"We are looking for people to be there for the long haul and we are not struggling financially at all.
"We just need people to step into the main roles and keep it going."
Anyone who is interested in any committee positions or joining the club as a supporter can contact Ged Roods on 0408 764 028.
The second AGM will be held on October 22 at 6.30pm at the Wauchope RSL.
