We have for more than a year been putting up with the unsatisfactory bus services in Wauchope, largely because our council and Busways do not see eye to eye.
Apparently Busways are at liberty to suggest new or modified routes, but council then makes the decision as to where the bus stops shall be.
This has led to the situation where our local bus company does not wish to use the stop in Bransdon Street any more and our council will not allow any new bus stops in front of existing shops. Council now says the bus stop to use to take the Timber Town loop is the one next to the playing fields, opposite the Anglican church. This is not a satisfactory solution, as:
1 It is a long walk for aged people carrying groceries from IGA
2 The intersection of Cameron Street and High Street is not pedestrian friendly,to the contrary, it is practically impossible to cross there.
So, what to do? The obvious solution is for Busways to re-think their route, i.e. go back to using Bransdon Street, where there are no shops at the bus stop. (Maybe they can then also work out how to serve passengers who wish to go to the library or Post Office. I have heard the library is poorly attended and may be closed.
If council wish to keep promulgating the stop opposite the Anglican Church as the only exit from Wauchope CBD to Timber Town, the least they can do is to provide a shelter and a seat there.
At present that bus stop is very exposed and inhospitable, as I discovered when standing in hot sunshine waiting for a bus which was late.
