WAUCHOPE High School's Owen McKittrick put his own name in the history books when he took part in the inaugural Australian staging of the International History Bee, becoming the first-up Middle School Champion of the New South Wales History Bee.

Owen, who travelled to Sydney to take part in the competition, answered a range of questions on Greece, America, Australia and China.
In the preliminary round Owen correctly answered 32 out of a possible 40, with his nearest rival coming a distant second place with 11 answered.
Owen's stellar performance continued in the final round, where he scored six out of six, with his nearest competitor managing only two out of six.
Other state History Bee events were held in Adelaide and Melbourne, with the Australian championships to take place in 2015. The competition is also held in Asia, Europe and the United States.
As a follow-up, Owen recently came equal second in the 2014 Australian History Competition.
