This year again sponsored by one of our great local supporters in Harcourts Real Estate Wauchope, we had full greens with 28 teams putting their snouts in the trough, as well as one in reserve; it was a great sight to behold.
Pork, pork and more pork was the theme, with the lucky winners sharing 60kg of the fine product supplied by Thomas' and Lewis' Butcheries. We thank all participants for their support and their favourable comments on the event and their feedback suggests they all hope to be back again next year.
The major winners on the day were a team representing Westport Club, Ken Coull, Paul Moon, Noel Cobcroft and John Haines with two wins and a margin of +27. The same club also supplied the runners-up with two wins and +25.
Coming in third were the North Haven boys with two wins and +23.
Wauchope finally got a team among the winners with Garry Rudge, Peter McLeod, Ken 'Barbie' Ansley and skippered magnificently by Lester Thurgate over the line in fourth spot with two wins and +22. Probably one of the least fancied of the Wauchope sides but shows what grit, determination, courage and a little bit of ability can achieve.
The Bradman (very best losers) was this year taken out by the Kew team, two losses and -38, who were each lucky enough to receive a tray of pig's trotters.
The WMBC would like to thank our sponsor on the day, Harcourts Real Estate Wauchope and the hard working committee, especially Paul Harrison for his time and effort in making the event such a success. A special thanks to Ross Lindsay from Harcourts who presented the winners with the Porker Trophies.
Sorry to confuse Alby, which isn't hard, but all cards were marked Z below 21 ends to eliminate unrequired ends.
On Wednesday afternoon 20 players turned out for our single entry select triples. Let's please get these numbers up!
Very popular winner of the afternoon were Ray 'Thunder' Rumbel and Peter McLeod with +13. Runners-up not far behind were the team of Brian Eyre, John Smith and Jim Hopcroft with +12. Jim is again back as the Riverbreeze mayor.
Unfortunately due to persistent precipitation Wednesday's twilight bowls had to be cancelled. You will need to re-register your team for this week.
We had ideal conditions for Friday's afternoon nominated pairs and the event attracted 12 teams. Winners on the day were the two Petes, Ostler a magnificent lead and McLeod a lucky skipper, with +13, unlucky for some, lucky for others.
Runners-up were again Doug Donovan and Ray Houghton who have been among the prizes for the past three weeks, with +7. Once again Ken and Barbie failed to live up to expectations and their own lofty standards.
Once again Saturday's afternoon mixed bowls was cancelled due to lack of support, very disappointing. I believe and hope this poor showing was only due to the fact that a lot of bowlers were to play in Pig Day on Sunday.
This week on the bowls agenda we have the usual Friday afternoon nominated pairs at 1pm, single entries will also be accepted. Wednesday afternoon single entry club select triples are at 1pm. Numbers have been down in this event in recent weeks so please make an effort to come along and support this great afternoon of bowls.
Wednesday twilight bowls will start at around about 5.45pm or whenever the duty staff can get organised. Visitors are always most welcome to register for any of these events by entering on the available sheet on the notice bench or phoning the club.
Saturday at 1.30pm we have the next round in the single entry, club grading, draw for partners, Travelling Bowlers Jackpot pairs gala, consisting of two games of 12 ends. As this will be an ongoing event the Jackpot currently stands at $120 for the selected margin, so get your name entered for a chance to share in the dollars.
Sunday at 9am we have the monthly Jackpot Triples which has reverted to $200 after the cash went off last time. Nothing to be sneezed at so get your team entered for a great morning of bowls.
A reminder that on December 20 starting at 8.45am we will be holding our inaugural Xmas Ham Day two bowl triples tournament with three games of 15 ends sponsored by Jax Tyres Port Macquarie and Stokes Butchery and Minimart. At $54 per team with a roast lunch included and ham prizes galore this is great value. See the club notice board for details and get entered as spots are filling fast.
Congratulations to those elected to the Country Club board and we hope you will all work together to take our club forward.
