Approximately 335 public schools entered teams in the NSW PSSA Touch Football knockout in 2014 with only eight primary school teams, who were regional winners progressing to the finals.
To become state finalists, the Wauchope team, made up of boys in Years 5 and 6 won six consecutive games defeating schools from Laurieton (8-0), Beechwood (11-3), North Haven (13-4), Tacking Point (7-6), Coffs Harbour (5-0), and Ballina (6-3).
At the NSW PSSA finals in Penrith, Wauchope defeated Wamberal (Sydney North region) in the state quarter final 5-2 to advance to the state semi-final.
The boys lost in a close encounter to Anna Bay (Hunter region winners) in the state semi-final, placing Wauchope third overall in the state for 2014.
"It has been a great experience for the boys and our school, said team captain Jack Potter, also a North Coast PSSA representative.
"Touch Football is becoming a really popular sport and for our school to progress so far in a state-wide competition is amazing.
"A big thank you goes to our coach, principal, school and parents for supporting us".
"This is a tremendous effort by the boys to make it this far in the state-wide competition, said Coach Jigh Sallustio.
