WINDY conditions once again proved challenging for even the hardiest of those who ventured out on the weekend of October 31 and November 1 and 2 on Wauchope RSL Fishing Club's monthly outing. Some patience and perseverance was the order for the outing.

In beach/rock and estuary, with bass, whiting, and jewfish being the target fish for the seniors, the outing very quickly turned into a race for the best bass. Although when Dan Murphy headed for the beach for some whiting, he soon found that there are easier ways to sand blast your car.
Also a good time to remember that when driving on the beach it's a good idea to put your car into 4WD and let some air out of your tyres, otherwise you may have to do a little digging to get yourself moving again. This time for Dan the score was beach and fish 1, Dan 0.
Dan re-grouped and went to the fresh water to find some bass, with his biggest being around 0.400kg.
Pat McInherney also had two bass, his biggest being around 0.450kg. Mick Winchester had two bass and a bream, his biggest bass being around 0.500kg, and his bream around 0.400kg. Donna Riddle caught one bass of around 0.350kg.
With the wind blowing in our current men's and ladies' champions, Mick took the 5 points, with Pat taking 4 points, Dan taking 3 points, and Donna taking the 2 points in the top 5 species point scores, and the points went the same way in the top 5 bag weight point score.
In deep sea/estuary, two of the boys ventured out and came back with some nice fish, with flathead being the order of the day.
Ron (Flathead) Murphy had a nice bag of flathead, with his biggest being around 0.700kg. Terry (Smiley) Hollis also had some flathead, with his biggest being around 0.710kg.
Terry took the 5 points and Ron took the 4 points in the top 5 bag weight.
We would like to thank our sponsors, Kyle Clarke Electrical, Pat McInherny plumbing, Dan Murphy Pressure Cleaning Roof Repairs and Roof Restoration, Settlement Point Boat Shed, Wauchope RSL Club and the Wauchope Gazette for their continued support.
Our next club outing will be on December 5, 6 and 7, with lines down at 6pm Friday and the weigh-in at the back of the Wauchope RSL club BBQ area at 2pm on Sunday.
The target species are as follows: All juniors - beach/rock and estuary - jewfish, bream, whiting.
Seniors - beach/rock and estuary - jewfish, bream, whiting.
Deep sea/estuary - flathead, pearl perch, morwong
Well done to those who went out, with some great fish being caught.
Remember if you don't catch any of the above species but have still caught fish, you can weigh your catch for the overall weight and point score. So come down, bring your catch, have a BBQ - we'd love to see you there.
We also have a raffle going, with money raised going towards the fishing club for various purposes. Julie Murphy is out and about selling raffle tickets around Wauchope, as well as other fishing club members, with some great prizes that were donated by various local businesses.
The raffle will be drawn at our next weigh-in on December 7 and the winners notified, so if you see one of our members, grab a ticket or two and help support us and local businesses.
The members from our club who were selected in the Hastings team to fish in the inter-divisional freshwater competition at Wyangla Dam, held on November 1 and 2, were Graham Lamb, Chris Jackson, Andrew Nee, Lyn Lugg, Grant Lugg and Toby Gardner, who was the captain.
The team of 12 was successful in defending the title and again crowned the champions. Congratulations and well done to the team,
There are reports of Lake Cathie holding good numbers of blue swimmer crabs and some good size whiting being caught on yabbies and poppers, and some nice prawns are about the lake.
Till next time safe travelling, good fishing and tight lines to you all.
