Thanks to the clever budgeting of the school principal Mr Paul Mason, each student has been the recipient of a bike and helmet.

Mr Mason has been fostering the goal of purchasing a bike for each of the 40 students for a few years and last week the students enjoyed their first laps around the school perimeter proudly showing off their new bikes

"It's a K-6 program and the year 3-6 kids have actually built the bikes themselves, "said Mr Mason.

"With the help of Thompsons Sheds we have also been able to build a large shed to keep the bikes locked up and under shelter and we have also built special bike stands."

Warren Jones, a Road Safety Education Officer from the Department of Education district office in Forster was at the school to see the kids enjoying the riding course and getting a handle on their new sports equipment.

"Having access to their own bikes at the school really helps to reinforce those key safety messages for these children," said Mr Jones.

"This sort of approach specifically teaches them about safety on their bikes, road safety in general and things like how to secure their helmets properly.

"A lot of our kids here at the school live on farms with lots of hills and don't have access to flat surfaces," said Mr Mason.

"Having the bikes at school and providing a course for them to ride on a regular basis really helps them to feel confident about riding and about being safe".
