The group celebrated the official incorporation of 'Port Writers Inc.' at their recent inaugural meeting.
"As a local group, we look forward to supporting all writers in the Port Macquarie Hastings region and developing an agenda that truly meets their needs," said newly elected President, Rachel Palmer.
High on the group's agenda in 2015 will be the compilation of an Anthology centred on the poet Henry Kendall and the famous Camden Haven valley and magnificent Port Macquarie Hastings.
"Writers find much inspiration in the beauty and diversity of our local area, it seems natural to draw from that creativity," said Rachel.
The first meeting introduced and welcomed joint patrons Laurie Barber and prize-winning poet Bessie Jennings.
Gill Goater facilitated a lively discussion on just what activities and exercises would support writers and how a move away from a more committee oriented approach could be achieved.
President Rachel Palmer, vice president Kerry Buchanan, treasurer Wendy Haynes and secretary Frank Urban are joined on the committee by Fay Blundell, Debbie Deasey, Gillian Scott and Melanie Wass.
Future Port Writers meetings will be held at the Rotary Community Centre, Hastings River Drive, at 1.00pm on the fourth Saturday of each month.
A membership application fee is $10 and a subscription running until June 30 2015, will be available for $20.
Contact numbers are 6584 6693 and 6581 2440.
Their next meeting on Saturday, January 24 will include a workshop led by Melanie Wass.
All interested writers and visitors are welcome to attend.
