Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is in the process of lodging an insurance claim to replace the Timbertown Reserve playground equipment destroyed in the fire in the early hours of December 23.
Once funding has been secured, a concept plan will be developed and exhibited to the community, a council spokesperson said.
Nearby residents said they were woken about 1.50am that day by the fire, which was attended by a Fire and Rescue crew and police.
"It was a real shock for the kids," one resident said. "They have lost their favourite play area."
There were many sad faces among the children inspecting the damage to the popular playground later that morning, the resident said.
The playground equipment burned fiercely, witnesses said, singeing the leaves of nearby trees.
Residents with suggestions for the redevelopment of the playground can visit the council's "The Play Space" website http://pmhclistening.com.au/the-play-space and leave a comment, the PMHC spokesperson said.
