Merv Bourke, Helen Ross, Mark Strachan, Keith Uptin and Patricia Waters have each received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for their extraordinary work within the community.
Merv Bourke received his OAM for services to sport as a coach and administrator.
"I've got a lot out of cricket and hopefully I've made some contribution as well," said Merv.
Helen Ross was honoured for service to the Port Macquarie community.
"When you are working and living in a community for the amount of time we have been, you become involved and engaged in that community and you want to contribute," she said.
Local radio identity Mark Strachan was revered for his service to broadcast media and to the community of Port Macquarie.
"The best thing I've learnt was that if you want to feel good, do something for someone else," said 'Strawny'.
Keith Uptin was also honoured for service to the community.
"It means quite a lot and I'm honoured and very humbled about receiving the award," said Keith.
"Overall I've been involved in so many different things and had a hand in helping so many different people."
Patricia Waters was humbled by the recognition she received for service to women, and to the community of Port Macquarie.
"I don't think anyone does any community work for recognition," said Patricia.
"I think it's just a case of you do it because you want to do it."
Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie formally congratulated the five for their contributions and their acceptance onto this year's Australia Day Honour's list.
"On behalf of the residents of the Lyne electorate, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate these hard working members of our community on their significant contribution to our region over the years.
"It's great to see a number of locals recognised this Australia Day, particularly as we reflect on the wonderful things that make up our great country," Dr Gillespie said.
