The players taught the youngsters a thing or two at a skills clinic at Stuart Park, and plenty of Port and Wauchope youngsters turned up.
The players had almost as much fun as the kids, with games and tackling drills keeping them entertained.
Knights five eighth Tyler Randell loved getting out into the country to meet the grassroots fans.
Randell grew up in Scone in the Hunter Valley.
He said the kids needed to be looked after.
“We all started somewhere with footy, so it’s good to give back to the younger kids, definitely,” Randell said. “I enjoy getting to country places like this.”
The players put the emphasis on fun. “It’s something a bit different for them, than their normal training sessions,” he said. “It’s all about fun for the kids.”
Randell played most of last season in reserve grade, after making his debut in the firsts side.
He hoped to be a regular part of the team in 2015: “That’s the plan,” he said.
He booted seven goals from nine attempts in Saturday night’s trial match.
