The Lions Club of Wauchope and TAD Disability Services have joined together to provide two specially modified bikes to Laura and Connor who have special needs.
Laura has mild Cerebral Palsy and moderate autism spectrum disorder and Connor has Down Syndrome and has undergone brain surgery.
TAD Disability Services have modified a bike to suit each child's physical and cognitive needs so that they can now enjoy riding with their family and friends.
The organisation is the only charity in NSW which designs and builds custom equipment to enable people with disabilities to lead more independent lives.
It's a relatively simple process that has resulted in enormous benefits for both kids.
"The bike has given Connor the freedom and independence to ride with his brother and sister," said Connor's mother, Shannon.
Laura's mother said the new bike has helped to give her daughter confidence.
"Laura could now join in with her brother and sister.
"Before receiving the bike it was difficult for her and she lacked confidence but since receiving her Freedom Wheels bike she can now take part in activities with her friends and enjoy what other kids take as normal."
The outcome and collaboration with TAD Disability Services has been very rewarding for the Wauchope Lions Club who contributed funds necessary to purchase the bikes.
"The Lions Club enjoys the support of the local community and is pleased that we are able to help those in need, said President of Wauchope Lions Club, Steve Perkins.
"When two organisations work together the outcome is of benefit to both families.
"The excitement on the children's faces as they rode their bikes shows what can be achieved and how the children could enjoy normal activities."
