The announcement was made by Jarrod Smith, newly appointed Sport and Recreation Officer for PMHC at a presentation to members of Wauchope's various sporting groups at the Wauchope RSL on February 4.
Mr Smith's initial nine month tenure in the role will include reviewing and communicating the reviewed field allocation process, the managing of facilities and support to clubs applying for facility upgrades and grant application support.
Members of the community had previously raised concerns about the potential damage to the cricket pitch during the rugby season but council has decreed the sharing of the park between sporting codes and encouraged clubs to support one another.
"These facilities are community based assets and the Thunder will have access to these," said Mr Smith.
"We (council) are here to support community involvement."
The Wauchope RSL Cricket Club has also backed the decision, that shared usage is not an issue.
"I think everyone is entitled to be passionate about the (cricket wicket) issue but co-sharing the ground is not going to be a problem," said Tony Brown, president of the Wauchope RSL Cricket Club.
"Sharing (the facility) is good for Andrews Park and good for Wauchope.
"It's the old and the new working together, working co-operatively and supporting sport in the community," said Mr Brown.
President of the Wauchope Thunder, Peter Daley, was quick to point out the preventative measures the club would take to ensure the integrity of the wicket.
"Look, we acknowledge that there is some community concern about the pitch and our priority is always protecting it," said Mr Daley.
"In the event of a knock- on occurring in the wicket area, we would be instructing the ref to move the scrum off the pitch.
"That's where the most damage would potentially occur."
Mr Daley also said that the rugby club would find an alternative venue for a game that would coincide with the upcoming 'Don Bradman Tribute Cricket Match' as part of the Wauchope Centenary of Rail celebrations.
Both Mr Brown and Mr Daley welcomed Mr Smith's appointment and stressed the importance of the various clubs in Wauchope working together for better community outcomes.
"We are crying out for the upgrade of facilities such as the amenities block here at Andrew Park, "said Mr Brown.
"This is the perfect time for Wauchope sporting clubs to get together as a group and make a difference to the facilities in this town."
Clubs are being encouraged to contact Mr Smith via council on 6581 8111.
