The new 20ML water reservoir is required to cater for the current and future demands of urban development west of Port Macquarie including the Thrumster Urban growth area, the Sancrox Employment Precinct and, in the longer term, the Greater Sancrox Investigation Area.
Council's director of infrastructure and asset management, Jeffery Sharp, said the need for a dedicated town water supply reservoir in the Sancrox area had been recognised for some time.
"With the region's popularity expected to increase over the coming years, this new reservoir is crucial for the region's growth as it allows for the continued development of lands in the Sancrox area," Mr Sharp said.
Council's appointed reservoir contractor, Hornick Constructions, has completed the final concrete wall, bringing the height of the reservoir to 18 metres. The reservoir is over 40m in diameter and is constructed using traditional in-situ concrete methods, and post stressed for added strength.
The change in construction methodology from pre-cast construction to in-situ has resulted in significant savings to the council, and the contractor is expected to complete its works on the reservoir by August.
Council's infrastructure delivery crews continue to work concurrently along Burrawan Forest Drive and within the State Forest north of the Oxley Highway.
The council works include:
* Installing over 500m of twin 600 and 750mm inlet and outlet mains from the new reservoir site within Burrawan Forest Drive to the Oxley Highway.
* Rebuilding and improvement of over 500m of Burrawan Forest Drive.
* Installing twin 450mm pipe bores under the Oxley Highway, each at 100m long.
* Installing 900m of 450mm water main through State Forest interlinking the existing reservoir with the new Sancrox Reservoir.
* Interconnection works between the council's existing water network and the new network.
To date the 600mm and 750mm water main has been installed, the road reconstruction is 90 per cent complete, the underbores are complete, the 450mm pipe installation is 40 per cent complete and valving and fittings are currently being installed.
The project is tracking well and is expected to be delivered under budget.
All council works are expected to be completed by May 2015 in line with the original programmed timeframe, it says.
