Dianne Gilbert representing the Wauchope Community Indoor Heated Pool Committee requested council submit an application under the National Stronger Regions Funding program to complete the indoor heated pool project.
Cr Sharon Griffiths said the Wauchope community deserved more consultation on the issue.
Mayor Peter Besseling said it was the role of the council to make decisions and in this instance it has decided to remediate a public facility that is at high risk of failing.
"I have faith council staff will do the best job possible for best value money to provide for a pool in Wauchope for the long term," Cr Besseling said.
"It's the role of this council to make decisions. This council has made a decision and all councillors should respect that decision. It doesn’t suit any of us to go back and review this month after month."
► THE grass will be greener on Town Green after Port Macquarie-Hastings Council resolved to fund and returf a swathe of the patchy parkland.
The Town Centre Master Plan (TCMP) Sub Committee expressed its concern to council in February about the overall condition of Town Green, particularly the area to the north of the CWA rooms.
The returfing project will be funded out of existing Town Green budget allocations.
CR Mike Cusato said the area outside the CWA rooms was the worst section and has been for many years.
"It's going to be a great start to beautify Town Green," he said.
►Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has adopted two strategic plans for the future of pedestrian access and cycleways.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan is a strategic action plan to deliver key pedestrian infrastructure across the region.
It will provide guidance for the ongoing development of the pedestrian network in town and village centres with its focus being on footpaths and road crossings.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Bike Plan delivers a strategic approach to delivering cycling infrastructure and guidance as to how the bike network links major urban areas across the region with the primary aim of increasing cycling safety.
► FEEDBACK from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s survey of residents about the impacts of fortnightly red bin pick-up will guide ongoing waste education and awareness campaigns.
In a report presented to Wednesday night’s council meeting, director of development and environment Matt Rogers, said the survey has painted a positive picture of the new domestic waste service.
Council’s Choose Your Bin campaign was recognised by 89 per cent of residents surveyed with more than 93 per cent of households opting to shift to fortnightly red bin collection.
Of those surveyed, 78 per cent of residents said the education campaign prompted a shift in household waste habits.
► Council has endorsed the investigation and planning for new road links and upgrades with Lake Road and improved access to the airport identified as a key priorities.
Cr Lisa Intemann said the priorities listed as a part of future road network planning is the result of long term discussions and investigations that takes into consideration growth in the Hastings, safety, amenity and economic development.
Cr Intemann said a great deal of thought has gone into future planning of the region's road network but it was time state and federal governments showed some support for the critical road issues faced by local government.
She was supported by Cr Justin Levido who said at the root of regional road issues and delivering the infrastructure local communities deserve was a lack of state and federal funding.
New road links and upgrades listed for investigation and planning include:
- New north-south (to improve airport access) and east-west (Ocean Drive to John Oxley Drive) links
- Additional links to the Port Macquarie Regional Airport
- New link between Central Road and Acacia Avenue
- Options for additional access to the southern section of the Lake Road industrial area through to Kingfisher Dr/Wrights Rd area
- Upgrade of Lake Road to two lanes in each direction between the Oxley Highway and Ocean Drive.
Council resolved to actively seek external funding for the preconstruction and construction required for the upgrade to Lake Road and consider funding the preconstruction activities in the 2016-2017 budget.
