With valuable competition points on offer for all grades a week out from having the bye, everyone showed up, switched on and ready to win.
And that attitude paid off, with the Blues scoring a clean sweep on the day, winning in all four grades.
The Ladies League Tag kicked the day off with a great victory over the competition front runner Taree team.
Captain/coach Belinda Andersen had this to say on her team’s performance: “Well the premiers have finally started to hit some form! We had a great win 16-10 over the Bulls girls who have been in good form so far this year.
“We spoke this week at training about lifting our individual performance, which would in turn bring a better team performance and to everyone’s credit they all stood up and were counted on Sunday.”
Standout players were Anna Lewis (3 points) with a great performance steering the team around the paddock. Natalie Steel (2 points) was unstoppable out wide again, with two tries she also received players’ player. Two points also went to Belinda Andersen.
The U18s are also starting to find their feet, with a convincing win over their opponents.
The young Blues have been training well the past couple of weeks after a few narrow losses and are now really starting to jell as a unit.
Prop forward Ray Mitchell was the standout on the day. Mitchell has been a powerhouse all year for the Blues and the weekend’s match was no exception.
Sam Ward and Jake Mcgrath also picked up points for their role in the win. Mick McInnes was pleased with his side’s result in the reserve grade match, chalking up another win in his first year of coaching.
The reserves outclassed their opposition both in attack and defence, winning 30-6.
After a disappointing loss last week, Justin Laurie and his first grade side were out for redemption but they knew the task at hand wasn’t an easy one, with Taree City being in form early in the season.
As expected the game was a low-scoring, good old-fashioned slog-out. However through near perfect defence and discipline the Blues came out on top, winning 12-8.
Adam McMurray showed why he is regarded as one of the toughest in the comp with a gutsy effort from the front rower.
