The Tigers coach Mick Schiffman crossed the strip first in the second minute of the game, then, not to be outdone, the Raiders coach Bo Wilson scored a few minutes later to lock the score at 4 all.
Gavin Burnham scored next for the Raiders and Bo added the extras, putting the Raiders ahead 10 to 4. Kyle Debreceny, who was playing his 100th game for the Tigers, crossed next. Drew Smith for the Raiders hit back with a try and with Bo again on target the Raiders were up 16 to 8.
With only minutes left before the break, the Tigers' Beavan Castles charged over the line and Shawn Madeley added the extras, leaving the Raiders 16 to the Tigers 14 at half time.
The second half started much the same as the first, with the Raiders' fullback Paul Ritchie crossing in the first two minutes, Dion Glassie converting, boosting the Raiders to 22 to 14.
The Tigers' number one Beau Dorrington scored and Kyle Debreceny converted, bringing the Tigers back in the game two points behind 22 to 20.
The 50-minute mark saw the Raiders' Paul Ritchie score his second for the day. Six minutes later Drew Smith scored his second for the day and with Dion Glassie kicking one goal the Raiders pushed their lead out to 32 to 20.
With 20 minutes left on the clock the Tigers' Beau Dorrington scored his second, Shawn Madeley converted, leaving the Raiders 32 to 26.
With 15 minutes to go the Raiders' Dion Glassie crossed but failed to convert, raising the Raiders to 36 to 26. Nine minutes to go and the Tigers' Chris Phillipson scored, Shawn Madeley was on target and the Raiders' lead was whittled to 36 to 32. With six minutes to the whistle the Tigers' Beavan Castles crossed for his second, but they missed the goal, leaving the score locked at 36 all.
When there was less than a minute left the Raiders' Bo Wilson was sin-binned and Shawn Madeley kicked the winning penalty goal - making the Tigers winners 38 to 36. Kyle Debreceny, playing his 100th game, was awarded the 2WAY FM Man of the Match.
A big day was held at the Beechwood Oval where the Jim and Rita Roods Memorial Stand was unveiled, and a good day was had by all.
The Long Flat Dragons came to play and were too strong for the Shamrocks, running out winners 42 to 6.
The half-time score was Long Flat 20, with tries to Paul Jones, Vance Byles, Robert Downey and Josh Henry, with Josh kicking three goals, while for the Shamrocks number six Amos Donovan crossed and Chris Dunn kicked a goal for their 6 points. The second half was all the Dragons' as they scored another four tries, Vance Byles his second for the day, Tom Willemsen, Brendan Blaker and Sam Cass, with Josh Henry kicking one goal and Mitchell Dick kicking two, leaving the final score 42 to 6.
In the other games the Lower Macleay Magpies scored a good win over the Kendall Blues 26 to 20 in what was said to be a very good and exciting game.
The South West Rocks Marlins were way too strong for the Port Macquarie Boardies, running out convincing winners 110 to nil. Owen Blair Jnr scored 58 points. I'm sure the Boardies will regroup for their clash with the Shamrocks next week.
Next week's games - Comboyne v South West Rocks; Harrington v Kendall; Lake Cathie v Long Flat; Boardriders v Beechwood - played Friday night at Port Stadium. Lower Macleay have the bye.
