Giants played Spartans in B grade and although short on numbers Spartans had a determined mission to achieve.
Giants batters gave it their all, with Justin Willingham hitting three safe from three at bat. Bailey Smith a double and single. Rod Powell, Steve Hamerlok and Dave Smith had two safe hits each. Jo Bonney, Mick Dager and Belinda Ayre had a single safe hit each.
Spartans' hitters were Bryden Kouwenberg (3), Howard Marzan and Andrew Taylor two each. Kris Stewart and Nick Purdie had one each. Standout was Jamie Tait hitting a triple and two singles from five times to bat.
Pitching, Giants Bailey Smith had two innings, two hits, three strikeouts; Justin Willingham two innings, ten hits, one strikeout and five walks; Tony Brown one inning, one hit, two strikeouts and two walks.
For Spartans, Bryden Kouwenberg had four innings, 14 hits, six strikeouts and three walks.
Final score was Spartans 14, Giants 11.
In the second B grade game Wolfpack 4 lost to Pirates 20.
In A grade Giants 6 went down to Pirates 13. While Pirates steadily added to their score, Giants left their run till the final innings - all too late.
In the play of the day, Giants Dave Smith on first base gloved a hard-hit line drive, then tagged his base for a top-notch double play.
