Locals joined a painting workshop at Wauchope Arts Hall (behind Bain Park) today to start work on the mammoth, 4.8 metre artwork.
To keep the ball rolling workshops will also be held tomorrow and Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
"Anyone over the age of 17 is invited to join in.
"The workshops were originally planned for Friday and Saturday, but we've decided to paint on Sunday as well so even more people can be involved.
"You don't have to be an artist, we're also looking for people's thoughts on what landmarks and attractions should be included and would love help with the research aspect," she said.
In particular, Mrs Davidson and partner Stephen Killick are wanting experts with knowledge of points of interest, street names and the location of churches, halls, schools and pre-schools.
The ensure the mural is an accurate reflection of the Hastings' many attractions, future workshops are likely to be organised.
A rough outline of the mural is already in place and residents are asked to come along and "paint by numbers".
Once installed, Mrs Davidson said the murals could easily be expanded to included the area' flora and fauna, historical figures and buildings and our Indigenous history.
A date for the mural's installation is yet to be confirmed, but it will definitely grace the Hastings Street wall of Wauchope Supa IGA by the end of the year.
