The inaugural competition inspired by the Highland Games will be contested at the Beer and Cider Festival at Westport Park on September 26, so there's plenty of time for training.
"We'd love to see someone west of highway take out the beer keg toss," Star Hotel manager John Monaghan said.
"I'm sure some of our patrons would be perfect candidates."
Organiser Scott Mesiti said he was still "refining the rules", "but basically you just throw it as far as you can".
The family-friendly Beer and Cider Festival is also set to bring together some of the Australia's best beer and cider makers.
Organisers say the event is aimed at celebrating the amber drop, along with all good things in life - food, games and music.
As well as showcasting a mixing pot of brews from local and Australian brewers, the festival will feature gourmet food stalls, live music and a games area to keep the kids entertained.
Attractions include a jumping castle, Bocce set up, giant Jenga play and more.
