The side came so close to knocking off Port Saints, but just couldn't get over the line at Regional Stadium.
Coach Simon Hancox was a proud man when he spoke to the Port News on Saturday afternoon.
He said his men would be better for the loss next season.
Hancox lamented a couple of missed opportunities which stood in the way of the Redbacks and grand final glory.
The biggest was Daniel Trompert's effort which hit the woodwork in the second half.
"At the end of the day, it's a game of chances," Hancox said.
"They took theirs and ours just missed."
His team had some great periods of football on Saturday.
"I thought we were probably the better of both halves, to be honest," Hancox said.
"That's not to the detriment of Saints. When we scored our first goal, I felt confident.
"We were on top."
Trompert was the side's standout, according to Hancox.
"I asked a lot of him today, and he was outstanding.
"Lachlan Moffat in the midfield. Every single week he runs his butt off."
While Hancox was sure the team would come back firing in 2016, he wasn't as confident he would be part of it.
His coaching stint this season was originally a one-year plan, and Hancox had some important people in his family to talk to before deciding on another year.
He said though, he would find it tough to pull the pin so soon after a grand final appearance.
"I'll find it pretty difficult to walk away," he said.
